Journal No.2 Due on Dec 7th (Wed), 5pm via email:
Centre Stage「阮玲玉」, Dir. Stanley Kwan, 1992, 118 min
Screening of this film:
Nov 21st (Monday) Rm 131, 4:30pm~
Nov 21st (Monday) Rm 131, 4:30pm~
IMPORTANT:
In this project, you
could work with TWO films, namely Centre
Stage (a semi-biopic of Ruan made in the 1990s; includes both archival
footages and Maggie Cheung’s reenactment of some of Ruan’s best performance, a
must see) and Goddess; could focus on
either of them—attention could be paid to 30s Shanghai cinema, Ruan’s stardom,
and if you are interested, it would be great to see what you think is “new”
with the biopic of Ruan, especially regarding how it might help you to consider
in which manner her screen persona/real-life story register the idea of “fallen
woman”.
