[IMPORTANT] reading journals

Reading Journal: Due dates May 16th/June 13th /July 11th.

Write a 300-word reading journal (typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, and 1” margins all around) focusing on assigned reading for the previous month (assignment for May 16th to review readings till Week 5; June 13th to review readings between Week 6-9). Don’t be overly concerned with grammar (although spell-check will be helpful!; yet indeed careless grammatical mistakes tell me how careless you are for your own works too), but do put a lot of thinking into your reading journals since they will be key to fruitful discussions in class and even your final paper.

Please submit the Journal to the lecturer’s email address maran@lit.nagoya-u.ac.jp with the subject “READING Journal 1/2/3”. I’d send out confirmation email once your assignment is received. Late submission is NOT accepted unless emergency happens. All assignments are preferably submitted to the teacher in Word Doc (if you haven’t installed it, PDF is fine), via email. The Word file should contain “NCC” and the STUDENT’S NAME in its file name. Preferred style is Chicago Manual of Style/CMS. Please self-study the CMS.

Format
Include the following information at the top of each assignment:

Your Name
Submission Date
Reading Journal Essay # [you should write either 1 or 2 here; not just #!!!]

Title of article

You should engage with TWO reading(s) as listed in our syllabus—one of which MUST be the required readings. You are expected to review, evaluate and even critique certain theoretical concepts (such as keywords proposed by scholars) and/or arguments (much detailed explanations); you should be able to present your own interpretation and viewpoints. Further relevant analysis of film shots/scenes/aesthetics/styles etc. will be welcomed but not a must.
